Independent: "The world's largest energy company is still spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund European organisations that seek to cast doubt on the scientific consensus on global warming and undermine support for legislation to curb emission of greenhouse gases.
Data collated by a Brussels-based watchdog reveals that ExxonMobil has put money into projects that criticise the Kyoto treaty and question the findings of scientific groups. Environmental campaigners say Texas-based Exxon is trying to influence opinion-makers in Brussels because Europe - rather than the US - is the driving force for action on climate change."

CommonDreams: "Global warming has begun to change the way microscopic plant life in the oceans absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere - a trend that could lead to a dramatic increase in the heating power of the greenhouse effect."

CommonDreams: "As Americans flee the cities for the suburbs, many are failing to leave poverty behind.
The suburban poor outnumbered their inner-city counterparts for the first time last year, with more than 12 million suburban residents living in poverty, according to a study of the nation's 100 largest metropolitan areas released Thursday."

IHT: "The CIA has acknowledged for the first time the existence of two classified documents, including a directive signed by President George W. Bush, that have guided the agency's interrogation and detention of terror suspects."

Zaman: "A documentary called 'The Secret War' has revealed that a group of 31 Taliban militants were tortured in Kandahar in the custody of U.S. soldiers after they had been captured in 2002 by Danish troops serving as part of the NATO forces in Afghanistan."

We live in a world governed by greed. Our Western civilization no longer has a vision, it doesn't promote democracy, freedom or justice, it has no other intrinsic values than money and greed. It has become a lie.

Guardian: "Mr Litvinenko's sealed coffin was laid to rest at Highgate cemetery in north London at 2.30pm, before a crowd of around 50 mourners, including the former intelligence agent's wife, Marina, and young son, as well as the exiled Russian billionaire Boris Berezovsky and the Chechen separatist Akhmed Zakayev."

In Russia they don't call Zakayev a separatist but a terrorist. The West is always very hypocritical about terrorism against other countries and quite often supports it. A terrorist who fights against Russia is in the eyes of Blair a freedom fighter; someone who fights against foreign invasion in Iraq is called a terrorist.

Zakayev was arrested in Britain earlier on a Russian extradition warrant accusing him of armed rebellion, murder and kidnapping. On November 13, 2003 a British judge rejected the Russian request for his extradition, saying that it was politically motivated and that he would be at risk of torture. On November 29 it was announced that he had been granted political asylum in the UK.
The 'risk of torture', of all things; how cynical can it get? Britain itself is promoting torture.
It is a fact that Britain and the US support the Chechen rebels. It's as simple as that. They supported the Taliban against Russia and now they are continuing the destabilisation of Russia.

SullivanCounty: "There are two sources that add fuel to the Chechen conflict, which cannot survive without international funds. The first factor is the Western ambition to reduce Russia to a small insignificant nation by cutting Russia off from its most important export earner, the crude petroleum. The second factor is the doctrine of a very violent crude version of Islam, the Wahhabism sect of Saudi Arabia, and its follower.

Western oil and natural gas companies are active for decades in organizing invasions, coup, communal riots, and promotions of dreadful dictators throughout the world. Coups in Iran-1953, Indonesia-1965, Chile-1973, communal riots in Nigeria during the 1970s, in Indonesia in 1999-2001, dictatorial rules of Mobutu in Congo, civil war in Angola, the recent invasion of East Timor by Australia and the invasion of Iraq by US-UK are all promoted by the Western oil and natural gas companies. UNICAL, the US natural gas company has financed both Muzzahadins and Talibans in Afghanistan.

EXXON and BP (British Petroleum) have invested heavily in the former Soviet republics of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan to eliminate Russian influence on these countries. Both Kazakhstan and the Caspian Sea have some of the biggest oil fields of the world. Russian oil fields are in Tatarstan, a Muslim majority province and in Siberia. Chechnya has some oil fields, but the importance of Chechnya rests on the facts that the major oil and gas pipelines from both Russian and Kazak oil fields are passing through Chechnya."

That is in essence what it is all about. And Litvinenko is a pawn in this game. The trafficking of nuclear material from Russia by rogue elements expulsed from the KGB/FSB is done with the consent of the British secret services. Traces of radioactive material were found in the British embassy in Moscow and the transport took place by British Airways. Negotiations about the sale and further transport were held at London hotels.
The link between Litvinenko and Chechnya cannot be denied. The interest of Britain and the US in Chechnya is clear. Either Litvinenko was set up by MI6/CIA or he made a serious mistake during the transport which spread contamination all around. It is inconceivable that Russia would try to kill all the people involved.

To me the theory that there is Western involvement in nuclear trafficking, probably to fund the Chechen rebellion (remember the Iran-contra scandal), is the most sensible one. Another aim in this case is the destabilisation of Russia, which could explain why Litvinenko could have been set up by MI6/CIA.
Britain is harboring terrorists and taking the risk of exposing its citizens to radioactive contamination. Britain and the USA export terrorism.
