CommonDreams: "The Bangladeshi banker Muhammad Yunus, who invented the practice of making small, unsecured loans to the poor, warned today that the globalized economy was becoming a dangerous 'free-for-all highway'.
'Its lanes will be taken over by the giant trucks from powerful economies,' Dr. Yunus said during a lavish ceremony at which he was awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. 'Bangladeshi rickshaws will be thrown off the highway.'

While international companies motivated by profit may be crucial in addressing global poverty, he said, nations must also cultivate grassroots enterprises and the human impulse to do good.
Challenging economic theories that he learned as a Ph.D. student at Vanderbilt University, in Nashville in the 1970s, he said glorification of the entrepreneurial spirit has led to 'one-dimensional human beings' motivated only by profit."

Poverty is an artificial creation.

The Nobel lecture. The ceremony.

SeattleTimes: "The departure of Christmas tree displays at main passageways at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport - the Port of Seattle's response to a local rabbi's insistence that an electric menorah also be put up - is accelerating into an international spectacle in the so-called 'war on Christmas'."

WashingtonPost: "A military watchdog group is asking the Defense Department to investigate whether seven Army and Air Force officers violated regulations by appearing in uniform in a promotional video for an evangelical Christian organization.
In the video, much of which was filmed inside the Pentagon, four generals and three colonels praise the Christian Embassy, a group that evangelizes among military leaders, politicians and diplomats in Washington. Some of the officers describe their efforts to spread their faith within the military."

Now, now, boys! Don't forget what Christmas is all about: commerce and a general whitewash.
Ain't this cute, the White House and Downing Street 10?

Christmas is the best of times and it is the worst of times.
Save yourself the money for a Christmas tree, buy a ukulele and have yourself a merry little Christmas.

And as this is the time of the tearjerkers, here is a karaoke version of Sonny Boy for you from me. Enjoy!
