Three Men And A Tenor
Today had an interesting twist to it. Instead of just my usual Media Lit and 10th grade Language Arts classes, there was also a performance by a vocal group called Three Men and a Tenor. Now their first performance for the middle schoolers happened to coincide with the first 30 minutes of my 10th grade class, which you wouldn't think would be a problem. But, my 10th grade class is in the classroom at the playhouse where the performance was taking place. So about a thirty minute chunk of time was eaten from my period, because I knew there was no way to keep them focused on the Terra Nova test while a concert with a couple hundred screaming 7th and 8th graders was going on just on the other side of the wall.
The Three Men and a Tenor performance was much better than I thought it would be. The four of them sang oldies mixed with a couple of more recent songs. They did a good job of getting the crowd involved, too. Normally I'm not too impressed with school assemblies for this sort of thing, but it was enjoyable and the kids seemed to get a kick out of it. Of course there were a few who were just too cool to show any sort of enjoyment, but aside from their sour pusses, it was a nice break from the routine.
I checked out their website when I got home, and read about how they've been touring Germany the last couple of weeks visiting military high schools like Baumholder. I feel sorry for them in that they've had a performance scheduled for each and every day and no time for much sight-seeing. I think that would drive me nuts to come all the way to Germany, but then not get the chance to see anything much beyond the schools you're visiting.
So anyway, if you ever have a chance to check out Three Men and a Tenor, I'd recommend them. They seem like a great bunch of guys and definitely worth giving a listen in person.
