An Hour In Frankfurt
Spent a little time in Frankfurt this afternoon. I'd been meaning to drive to the airport there to figure out how to, well, drive to the airport. The other times I'd been there, I'd taken the train. Today I found out how to save a little money and just take the car.
So once I'd gotten to the airport (hour and a half drive, by the way), parked, and taken a look around to remind myself of how confusing a place it is, I decided to take a train into downtown Frankfurt. Why? Because I'd never been there.
Ended up just walking around the area of the main train station. Unlike London, there aren't signposts on nearly every corner telling you where the important stuff is. Since I didn't have a map on me, I took a wild guess as to the direction of the Main river, and headed off.
Luckily I guessed right. I soon found a pedestrian bridge crossing the Main which afforded some nice views of the city. On the other side of the river was an art museum. From what I remember of the guide books I have (but didn't have on me at the time), there are several museums down along the river. But I only saw this one, and the film museum, which incidently is having an exhibition on Stanley Kubrick. Definitely going back to see that (most things were closed today, by the way).
Eventually I wandered back over another bridge, saw a few nice parks, a cool statue of Goethe, and then caught a train back to the airport. Then found my car on the first try, and after a few tense moments (do I turn here or here?!), managed to find my way all the way back home.
The end.
