One Down. An Administration To Go.
George Tenet, the head of the CIA, turned in his letter of resignation last night to Bush for "personal reasons."
Personal reasons? Is he taking it personally that many in the administration are overtly and covertly pointing the blame for 9-11 and the WMD fiasco at him? Is he taking it personally that if you open up a dictionary and look for the term "scapegoat," you'll see his frowning face?
Actually, I'm shocked that Tenet has held on this long. Just like I'm equally shocked that Donald Rumsfeld is still in power. Or Cheney. Or Bush.
Truth be told, Tenet was appointed by Clinton back in 1997. In fact, you don't have to look very hard to find Republicans shouting out that very fact ever since the news of the resignation broke. Funny the Clinton angle wasn't important to them back when Tenet supported the bogus reasons that Bush had for going to war with Iraq. They also don't put out that Bush kept Tenet and didn't fire him in the last three and a half years.
Which leads us to Bush's new problem: who is he going to blame now for the intelligence failures that led to 9-11 and the mythical WMD?
Clinton, probably.
On a positive note, Bush has created at least one job.
On a down note for Bush, news is that he's looking for a lawyer. Seriously.
