If England Had To Go

... at least France got kicked out, too.  By the Greeks, no less, a team that had never gotten anywhere close to this far in a major tournament.  The Greeks go from being a bunch of nobodies to not only beating the defending Euro 2000 and World Cup champs, but they've also already tied with Spain and beaten Portugal.  You know that same Portugal that beat England Thursday night.

Speaking of England losing, David Beckham is taking some from the press.  He didn't play well at all the whole tournament and he blew his penalty shot in the shootout with Portugal Thursday night.  In fact, the England captain missed his last three penalty shots.  Give me three shots, I'd at least get it toward the net.  His against Portugal ended up in row Q.

By the way, if you want to try your hand at helping David Beckham make a penalty shot, go here.

Also by the way, some are blaming the Swiss ref for England's loss.  He called three times as many fouls against England as against Portugal and he also disallowed what looked like a winning goal by England's Sol Campbell.  But he can't be all bad.  He does have his own website.

So now I'm stuck.  Both England and Germany are out of Euro 2004.  Who am I supposed to support?  Right this second I'm leaning toward Portugal.  Might as well have the consolation of England losing to the eventual champs.  That is if they do win it all.

Next important football date:  August 14th.  That's the season opener for Manchester United.  Against Chelsea.  Holy crap.
