Disappointments
I have a few gripes to get off my chest today. A few things that have let me down, not lived up to the hype, and come up short.
- Switzerland: I forgot to mention when I wrote about our trip last week to Switzerland that one thing stood out about the country that I didn't expect. I mean when you think of Switzerland you think mountains, right? Or chocolate. Or yodeling. Here's something else you should expect: graffiti. The country is covered with it. Some parts of the drive down to Interlaken seemed like a drive through the Bronx. There's so much that either it's an acceptable art form, or the Swiss are too lazy to clean it up. I'm not the only one who has noticed this, btw.
- John Kerry: As much as I hate Bush, I just can't turn that hatred into enthusiasm for John Kerry as president. Is this the best the democratic party can do? I'll admit, I'll be punching the ballot for Kerry come November, but I'll be holding my nose while doing it.
- Hoobastank's "The Reason": One look at the lyrics gives me all the reasons I need to hate this song. A badly written Hallmark card set to generic rock ballad riffs. Yawn.
- Breakfast at Heathrow Airport: Not only did the lady fixing my "Hearty Breakfast" screw me out of my hashbrowns, but she also didn't clearly identify to this Yank what exactly that black, sausage-looking thing was on my plate. Being adventurous, I ate about half of it, but didn't particularly care for the taste. Later I learned it was black pudding. You know what black pudding is? It's basically congealed pig's blood. Blood! Sausage made of blood! I unwittingly became a swine vampire when all I wanted was a decent start to the morning. And some hashbrowns.
- Diana Ross: Thanks to E!'s True Hollywood Story, I now know what a bitch she is. Even as I type this, I'm getting the dirt on Demi Moore. This show is the 60 Minutes of this generation.
But for all my disappointments, whatever I'm feeling can't be nearly as bad as what the person searching for "how do you pronounce clitoris" via Google about an hour ago must be going through. To be seeking knowledge and truth, and then to find this site instead? Crushing.
