Otra Vez Trier

Sorry I haven't updated my site in a couple of days.  We've been busy.

After an early start this morning, we locomotioned our way up to Trier.  I could probably drive there in an hour or so, but it is much more interesting by train.  At least on the two hour trip up.  The ride back tends to be a bit longer, and by that time, you're too exhausted to enjoy it.

As soon as we stepped out of the train station, Marcela declared that this was the city she wanted to retire to.  She even picked her house out within ten minutes of walking through the park on the way to the market center.  I suggested she pick something a little more sturdy.

After checking out the Porta Nigra, we decided to do a little shopping and restrooming in the Galeria Kaufhof where my Queer Eye addiction paid off.  I picked out a snappy French ensemble for Marcela, which should come in handy when we head over the border next week to the Frenchie capitol.  My own purchase was an England jersey, which should come in handy when I wan to get my ass kicked by my German neighbors.  The England shirt:  10 euros.  German team shirts on the next rack:  65 euros.  Sheesh.

Maybe even more shocking than their pricing structure was their pet policy.  We saw several dogs being led by their owners up and down the aisles.  Now we already know Franklin likes shopping bags (and karate), but what if I took him to Trier to pick out my Fall wardrobe?

Maybe not.

Later we headed over to the market to find an outdoor cafe and some eats.  I wanted something with meat in it, but Marcela wanted something sweet, so first we found a place that sold coffee and sweets.  She had a cappuccino and a slice of cheesecake.  I had diddly squat.

After more walking around, including browsing a lighting shop that had the Penis Boy lamp heading this post (guess what you flip to turn it on and off), we found the Louisiana: The Big Easy restaurant where I landed a big ol' burger and fries.  The burger tasted like sausage, of course.

Then we decided to have a religious moment or two, and headed for the Basilika and the cathedral.  Marcela hadn't had a chance to check out the Jesus robe, so we took a peek through the heavily guarded gates.  You still can't see much, though you leave with the impression that they really don't want to lose what is inside that room.

Besides that room, Marcela was most impressed with the size of the cathedral's organ.  It really is humongous and hangs over the left side pews.  No idea what it sounds like since they weren't playing it, nor did we want to buy the cds they had on sale in the gift shop.

So that was pretty much it.  Just a quick trip to Trier with some shopping and food thrown in between the history.  Don't think I'm quite convinced I should retire there, though.  London is still calling.
