Two Beers, Two Waffles, And One Pina Colada

So you ask yourself: how does Alex show a girl a good time in Germany on a Saturday night?  He takes her to the Ohmbachsee Seefest, of course.

Lake Ohmbachsee is only a couple of miles from my home, so it made sense to go check out their yearly music and food fest.  They had paddleboat rides, helicopter rides, bands, food, and lots of beer.  So we found a pavilion where a band called the Meen Gees were supposed to kick things off around 7 p.m.  Or so we thought.

About 6:30 or so, the heavens came crashing down in the form of wind, rain, and hail.  Eventually the storm died down to a more gentle rain and we decided to just hang out under the cover of that pavilion and check out the Meen Gees, and then head on over to an AC/DC cover band that was supposed to be rocking at another pavilion.

Simple enough plan, right?

So we waited.  And waited.  And waited some more.  Some group came out and soundchecked forever right around 7:00 p.m. and managed to choke out a German-tinged version of "Addicted to Love."  Then they left and another group (the Meen Gees from the looks of their website) soundchecked for quite awhile, in between gulps of beer.  Then they left.  And came back.  And left again.

In the meantime we gulped down our own beers, two Belgian waffles, and a pina colada, because after all, we were caught in the rain.

Finally around 9:20 p.m., the rain had stopped, the band hadn't started, so we decided to split to the AC/DC cover band.

They weren't playing.  At least I think they weren't.  I mean a band was playing in the other pavilion, but they didn't look like they were "Back in Black."

We probably could have stayed longer, especially since we were learning lots about how German bands can seemingly soundcheck for hours in front of an expectant audience, and even more especially since the sky appeared to be clearing with a beautiful sunset behind it, but we were tired, a bit cold, and more than a bit worried that my car would be stuck in the mud of the field I'd parked in.  So we called it a night and came home.

Ohmbachsee Seefest -- at least the waffles were good.
