I'm a decline-to-state voter basically because I did not want all the junk mail associated with either republican or democratic party, I didn't want all the phone calls telling me to vote for xxx and xyz, I didn't want to deal with it and putting decline to state or independent or even green party on my voter registration gets me only the occassional email and no junk mail, I get plenty of junk mail without adding to it.
But what I didn't know until recently is that I have to ask for a democratic ballot when I go and vote on the 5th. What I don't get here is why I'd even have to ask for a certain type of ballot to vote for who I want to vote for. So does that mean that you state you're a republican, you're only going to get a republican party ballot card - what if that republican wants to vote for a democrat instead? Should they have all the options on all the ballots? Not just specific ones for your party? Seems kind of unfair and not very democratic.
And get this: According to California Republican Party rules, "Decline-To-State" voters are NOT allowed to vote in the Republican Party primary, huh? At least the democratic party specifically allows "Decline-To-State" voters to vote for their favorite Democratic presidential candidate in the Democratic primary.
Don't get me wrong, I am not a republican but if I was and just because I didn't want junk mail or junk phone calls, I couldn't vote. Something seems so wrong here.
and that's probably my only little rant about politics you'll find here :)
