Funny how time changes everything...only 40 years later the Beatles are mainstream....

No time to relax too much.....
Next week Jon and I will dive back into the new Christmas album we started last year. So much for hanging around and relaxing....

Today a title came to mind: "1001 Christmas Nights", which might fit the "Opium"-"Le Cafe" vibe....

Music to order.....Custom Music Design pt.2
The challenge would be interesting. I would assume that someone hiring me to write and record a song for them would want me to do something in "my style", whatever that is, and not a Heavy Metal Ballad or a Punk song...in that sense this idea wouldn't differ very much from a Work-for-Hire for a film soundtrack.

Here is where it might differ: if a movie company hires a composer to create a soundtrack, that movie company pays for the right to market that music in any way they see fit. They can produce a soundtrack album in addition to the movie, for example. In the case of Custom Music Design I think that neither the artist nor her/his client should be allowed to market the song independently. In other words, the client should not be allowed to turn around and sell the song to an ad agency for a car commercial, or a movie company for a soundtrack....and the artist should not be allowed to place the song on a future album release. Similar to the Fine Arts, where the painter retains the copyright to a painting after selling it, the copyright should be retained by the composer in this case, but with the understanding that s/he cannot use that particular recording for anything (this could also be limited to a certain amount of time).

In the end in comes down to the price. Recording a song takes a lot of time, probably as much time as a painting would....(except for those Dutch Masters who took five years for a single painting.....) and therefore the price would have to reflect that.
