Knitting library must-have, redux

When I first thumbed through this book I thought, "Hmmm, knitted pea pods, not for me." In knitting class last night, we had a closer look. Inside, Epstein has collected a fabulous assortment of chunky tassels, elaborate fringes and whimsical borders. Some of her ideas are over the top--I, for one, can't see myself ever knitting a loopstitch Christmas tree--but many of her textures and added bits of interest are totally cool.
This recommendation came from amazing Ingrid in class: The Grammar of Ornament: Illustrated by Examples from Various Styles of Ornament by Owen Jones. Not a knitting book per se, rather an examination of how cultures embellish their environments. Lots of lavish ideas for patterns.
Schlumpie update: The diagnosis is in. Jeanne at The Recycled Lamb pronounced it a frog job. So I'll be reknitting the sleeves, alternating between balls of dyelot A and dyelot B every two rows. Fun.
Repetitive stress injuries: There has been a lot of discussion on the Yahoo knitlist and in the blogs about carpal tunnel syndrome and the like. I have one word for you, and it's NOT surgery: Yoga. Even the mainstream medical establishment endorses it for RSIs. A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association published in 1998 demonstrated the palliative effects of yoga on carpal tunnel. Check out the abstract here. So get thee to a good Iyengar class, stand on your hands and keep knitting!
Daily war rant: I'm not ranting today, but celebrating the rescue of Jessica Lynch, the 19-year-old private from W.V. Way to go!!!
