Good and plenty

Exotic balls
Bay Area adventure report: Was remarkably temperate re: yarn acquisition on our spring sojourn to San Fran and the East Bay. But couldn't resist the above frippery (clockwise from left Austermann's Metropolis, GGH's Soft Kid and Crystal Palace's Squiggle) at Rachael's LYS Artical Pract. If you're ever in Oakland, Artical Pract is a tightly merchandised, pattern supported store, bins brimming with tempting fiber treats.
And, got to meet Rachael! Love her! Like the opera star that she is, she rose from her sick bed to pick me up and schlepp to the coffee shop and nearby yarn store. Can you believe that? And it was raining! I was worried the poor girl was going to cough up a lung. Or relapse. Oh God, now I see she hasn't posted since Saturday. You OK over there, Rach?
But it felt like a grand reunion. We chatted like a couple of old pals. She's met a bunch of bloggers (gaggle of bloggers? pride of bloggers) and reports we're a delightful group, not the crazed harridans one might expect. She also taught me to cable without a needle, a skill I'm sad to say, only began to take root on the flight home. And she knits like the wind, the wench, compromised lungs and all. Sending you a big hug and prayers for a speedy recovery and many thanks.
Mitch's family also indulged me with a trip to Imagi Knit, one of Rachael's must-see yarn destinations in the city. Wow. As we overheard one woman say, "shock and awe." These Bay Area stores seem to be hugely into the GGH yarns, hard to come by out 'chere in Colorado. Also Habu (like anyone here would carry Habu), Anny Blatt, Colinette, Lana Grossa and tons of exotics. We hooked my brother-in-law's girlfriend up with some Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted and some size 9's and now she's knitting her first scarf. Quick study, Kathleen.
A great time was had by all. Many thanks to everyone for making this a splendid trip!
