At sixes and sevens

A whole lot of swatchin' goin' on
Bored, yet? Let's start at the beginning, shall we? I reach for the ball winder then happen to notice that the back side of the wrapper on Fiesta's Rayon Boucle offers a cautionary note: This is a slippery yarn, for best results wind skeins by hand using a swift. The wrapper then suggests to set the swift up perpendicular to the base. A bit put off by all the warnings, I nonetheless heed the instructions and wind without a hitch. This saddens me. Think of all the hours we've wasted unknotting slick rayon yarns, when we could have been winding away happily using Fiesta's simple tips. Learn something new everyday.
So on to swatching. I reach for sevens. Swatch, swatch, swatch. Reach for sixes, swatch, swatch, swatch. Realize how to count gauge in garter stitch. Reach for the sevens again. Swatch, swatch, swatch. Realize I will never get gauge. Reach for the Knitware Design Software. Reach for the sixes again and at last...cast on. (The sixes create a tighter fabric, which I'll need given the propensity of garter stitch to sag.)
Fascinating reading, this.
Daily kudos: Happy anniversary to Brown vs. the Board of Education. And congratulations to Massachusetts for legalizing same-sex marriage and providing another reason to remember May 17 in the history books.
