Grinding out the garter

Sadie on a sea of garter stitch
Garter snaking: In an effort to enliven the long slog through Sally Melville's Where's the Opaque sweater (from The Knit Stitch), I offer the above. The cats have shown little interest in the aforementioned confection--too much rayon and not enough wool for their tastes. I fear I must agree. Fiesta's rayon boucle snags easily, a hang nail or a loose bit of dry skin causes this fragile fiber to fray. But the color is lovely and now that I'm up to the sweater's "sheer" yoke, I'm enjoying watching Melville's clever pattern come to life.
Knitting novel: Damn! Someone beat us to it. The Shop on Blossom Street takes place in a Seattle LYS and explores the friendships that develop among the disparate types of women who knit. (Sounds like Ya-Yas with yarn.) Betty, one of the premier teachers at The Lamb, read it and reported back favorably on its authenticity. "I've said some of the same things to my knitting students," she said. (Apparently knitting teachers are like mothers, a universal phenomenon.)

Sadie Against Bush: The other day in a frenzy to change my clothes, I whipped off my Knitters Against Bush t-shirt and threw it on the bed. When I returned home, I discovered that Sadie has embraced the movement. (I think she'll vote for Kerry, don't you?)
