And now for something completely different
The Chia Flop (Schachenmayr Nomotta Brazilia Fantasy 382)
Got hair between your toes? Embellished flip flops (or as my friend Stephanie's three-year-old would say, "embewished fwip fwops") are all the rage at The Lamb. The recipe: Combine about 10 g of the thickest, furriest eyelash you can find with a pair of rubber sandals, and voila, monkey feet.
To get the effect, use a 5.5 mm crochet hook and slip stitch the yarn around the straps by grabbing your working yarn over the strap for your first stitch, then under for your second. Repeat until you've got some seriously hirsute sandals. (Hint: As you work, bunch your "fur" toward the end of your strap for a thicker "pelt.") One pair takes about an hour to make.
A couple of the ladies are scoring deeply discounted thongs and whipping them up for craft shows--$18-$20 a pop.
Here's my elegant pair:

PS: You guys are the coolest. Thank you for all the words of encouragement and advice. I'm looking into the performance issues on the site--Radio Userland bites, but I hesitate to migrate because of the steep learning curve. (I never want to change cell phones for the same reason.) Anyway, you guys are da bomb! Sniff. Sniff.
