Today was such a good day for what I was needing in my career and life. Here are a few reasons:
.) It was good to "look" like a professional. I've spent most the summer in t-shirts, short and flip-flops. Today I was in a nice suit with a great shirt under it. I could've used better shoes, but haven't had reason enough to invest yet. I should keep checking out the Rack more.
.) It was good to see my clients face-to-face. I do a lot of training and working over the phone. To be there in person was awesome. To get to see their facial reactions and body language as we were walking through overviews. I felt a really good connection and it made me more excited about the project.
.) I was reminded how much I miss a particular coworker who's been moved a bit away from me because of position. Just the feeling made me aware that I could do the effort.
.) I watched Oprah (heh) and it was where she picked slightly-random people to learn their story. The guy that works in the garage. A lady who wanted to take her to lunch. A guy who had sad eyes in her audience. Everyone has a story. I think it's easy to forget that sometimes. There's so many people in this world and each one different. It's easy to get caught up in our world or that of those close to us and lose sight of the fact that there are so many things going on around us and you never know what a person has endured before they reach your eyes. Maybe the person you're yelling at in traffic was up all night with a sick baby, but still has to go to work. Maybe the unsmiling cusotmer service person lost someone dear to them. Now, there's not always a legit reason for people to do some things that are done, but there are certainly more things going on with the people that we interact with.
.) The sun's shining. It's supposed to be a beautiful day. I'm going to make use of that tent and sleeping bag and go camping. Maybe I'll hit the library first for some business books. Maybe.
