Rebecca's Blog
Mostly news stories or articles of interest in the future to me. I'll eventually get around to adding my own ideas and stories on a more regular basis.

a story i wrote today:

In a high tower, in a far away land lived in a toad, a spider, and a fly.  You might think this would be quite a contrary situation since there was no other living things to consume and frogs and spiders both love to eat flies, but...there was peace in the land.  The fly flew too high to be caught.  The spider stayed away from the toad and could spin away much more quickly than the toad could jump on the rare occasions that the toad thought the spider would be better in his tummy than in conversation.  One day, however, in moved Rapunzel.  The spider confused one of those long, blonde strands for her web more than once.  The fly was drawn to her sweaty smell and came close to being caught off guard several times.  The toad…well the toad just waited for the right moment. After weeks of listening to the chanting of “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your long hair” over and over and over again, the toad decided to make his move. He hopped on to her foot, as she sprang forward he hit her knees and landed on the window. He then sprang to her mouth, gave her a kiss, and turned into an ugly guy.  He then stomped on the spider, swatted the fly, held Rapunzel’s head on the window and shimmied down her long, blonde hair.

mama don't let your babies grow up to be bloggers
don't let 'em hack brackets and code them old tricks
make 'em be doctors and lawyers and pricks
mama don't let your babies grow up to be bloggers
they'll always stay home and they're never alone
even with someone they love

bloggers ain't easy to love and they're harder to scold
and they'd rather leave you a comment than diamonds or gold
javascript rollovers, old failing servers
night magically turns into day...
and if you don't blogroll him
and he don't get clued
he'll probably just post away...

Ex-Apple Employee Slams Company. In an online forum, a former Apple marketing director lashes out at co-workers for creating a 'diseased and dysfunctional' culture, which he says led to the company's downfall. By Leander Kahney. [Wired News]

What I liked about this story was an opinion on why failure happened. Here's my favorite quote:
"We all wanted to be chefs," he writes. "Nobody wanted to be a busboy. Our senior managers lacked the wisdom or the will to call off the game. And so our company fell."

We need busboys.
