Well we just have power (and internet access) back after the blackout ( but they are promising no notice rolling blackouts so I am not sure when I will go offline again)-- no power for almost 20 hours (expect for a couple of hours in the middle of the night). It really is amazing how much we depend on electrical power:
- no lighting
- no tv
- no air conditioning ( its 32C here)
- no refrigerators, no cold drinks
- threats of water shortage and sewage problems( no power to run plants and pumps)
- no internet access
- no computers
- no street lights
- no gas stations
- no food/ supermarkets
- no stores
- no banks open
- no commerce of any kind
- no coffee
- did I say no coffee?
- no video games, no movies
- no traffic lights
- no swimming pools
- no work -- no air conditioning in buildings
- people stuck in elevators
I am sure there are tons of other effects. It was eerie having to go outside with flashlights and play cards by candle light.
