Trillian locked out of Messenger network?

Microsoft to lock down MSN Messenger network. Microsoft Corp. is making changes to its MSN instant messaging (IM) service that will lock out users of third-party software that uses the service as well as users of older versions of Microsoft's own Messenger client, the company said Tuesday. [InfoWorld: Top News]

If this is true it could put Cerulean Studios: The Creators of Trillian and Trillian Pro IM Clients (and other 3rd party Messenger makers) out of business. It seems that Microsoft is leaving the door open slightly requiriing some sort of "agreement" from third parties.

This could be similar to the nasty thing that AOL did to MSN Messenger when it was first introduced also claiming security issues. I hope Microsoft doesn't have that short memory.

"Making fun of music. One song at a time..."

Saw this site mentioned in the paper today. A fun site -- lots of quirky stuff. Some of it is just plain silly but some are real funny. Maybe Dave Winer should start using lyrics from here on his site instead -- see if people are paying attention.

" 'scuse me while I kiss this guy ".

"Volunteers" at Microsoft cont'd

Robert Scoble replied to my (half joking) comment asking why Microsoft does not have enough paid support people to handle the Blaster worm support issues[The Scobleizer Weblog]. I think the whole thing underlines the need for Microsoft to be more proactive about dealing with "recalls" of its products.

And as I have said previously I think one of the possible ways to do this is force legal liability issues on Microsoft ( and other suppliers of computer products) -- not allowing "as is", no liability ever clauses in licenses. Any other product sold commercially would have the protection of consumer law -- why not software and computer appliances?
