Marchant le Blogroll. The Dissident Frogman tells the sad tale of Uncle Fungus, the heatwave, and fine French system of healthcare. It's quite a read! [Jay Solo's Verbosity]
I'll say! Jay finds another gem. (LP)

Is Linux as Secure as We'd Like to Think? [Slashdot]

"With all the recent brouhaha about Blaster and Sobig, there's been a lot of talk about how poor Windows security is, especially compared to the Linux we all know and love. But is this really true? The website defacement archive at Zone-h shows that Linux accounts for 61% of the defacements in the last 24 hours (note, this figure changes, so it might be different when you view it). An analysis of the last few weeks of their archive shows a similar percentage of exploited Linux systems. Note also that the 'Unknown' category is rather high, and certainly contains at least some Linux systems, further increasing the percentage. Why is this? Are we just deluding ourselves about our own security? Could there be a Linux 'Blaster' just waiting to happen?" While "defacements" don't necessarily mean "root level break-in", sometimes getting your foot in the door is enough. If this happens, wouldn't Linux then be just as exploitable as Windows? Are there other reasons why the likelihood of a "Sobig" or an "ILUVYOU" would be lower for Linux than Windows?
Can't believe this is posted on the Bastion of the Linux Cult! (LP)

45 Goals of Communism
I had not seen this before. While researching to make sure it was the real thing I ran across a newspaper article that mentions them. I didn't find anything at the hoax sites so I guess this document actually exists. Really scary to say the least. (LP) Thanks to my roving reporter "OD" for the tip.

Man Bites Dog. Believe it or not, the San Francisco Chronicle is tearing Cruz Bustamante a new asshole over his economic plan.
Does California really need a governor who believes taxes are too low and government is too small? Or do we need leadership that will help us repair our economy, streamline government and attract and retain jobs? We need a... [Right-Thinking from the Left Coast]

Getting the Job Done. The lefties in this country piss and moan about "get tough on crime" laws, and wail about how giving private citizens the right to carry weapons will leave our streets awash in a sea of blood. Well, nothing succeeds like success.
Violent and property crimes dipped in 2002 to their lowest levels since records started being compiled 30 years ago, and have dropped more... [Right-Thinking from the Left Coast]

Religion of Peace Strikes Again. Car bombs [little green footballs]
Sooner or later the rest of the world is going to wake up to the fact that this so called religion of peace has decided that everyone except themselves must die. It can be a short war or a very long war. Its up to all non muslims to decide to get it over with fast or slow. I'm not up on the bible but haven't I heard something about a thousand year war or did I just make that up?(LP)

SPACE STATION TRANSIT: Usually when people spot the International Space Station (ISS), it's glowing in the night sky. On August 16th, however, Roland Stalder of Lucerne, Switzerland, photographed the ISS in broad daylight--when it passed directly between him and the sun. (continued below)

Stalder's video of the event, which you can see by clicking on the composite image above, is probably the finest such movie ever recorded. "This was my first ISS-transit observation and I am quite speechless about it," he says. Stalder knew when to the ISS would cross the sun thanks to Thomas Fly's email transit-alert service. This is amazing! Thanks for the tip OD! (LP)
