I'm Sorry Dave, I'm Afraid I Can't Vote That Way. 57 of Diebold Election System's voting machines phoned home the results of a California county's election early to a Diebold employee, while the MS Access files from the machines were stored on an open FTP site, where anyone could retreive them. The press has been saturated since Friday morning with misleading reports claiming that the number of jobs held by Americans declined by nearly 100,000 in August. They Don't Even Hide Their Goals. Khilafah.com, a radical Islamic web site that is inexplicably regarded by Google News as a valid news source, even though it actively advocates for the overthrow of Western civilization, has an eye-opening article explaining how Muslims should be politically active in the West—to further the goal of replacing democracy with an “Islamic state:” The correct political activism for Muslims in the West.[little green footballs]

 SENIOR SCOOTER
Getting older has its drawbacks, but I guess there aren't any good alternatives to getting older.  Whenever you see a gathering of seniors, it is an even bet they are talking about everything that is wrong with them.

You know, the usual, prostate, bowel, leg aches, eyesight, etc., etc.

Well, I am a senior and I absolutely refuse to discuss these issues with everyone else.  If I have a problem, I find a solution.  It is not always the solution I like, but I handle it the best way I know and I don't discuss it with every guy I see on the street that is past 50.  No sir!

With this in mind, I bought myself a new scooter.  I wanted something that was easy on gas and could zip me to the store and about town.  This seems to meet my every need. I love it !

 Hasta la vista, Baby.

One of the many headaches that George W. Bush inherited from his
predecessor was the Puerto Rican island of Vieques.  In the waning years
of the Clinton administration, protesters demanded that the U.S. Navy
abandon bombing and naval gun fire exercises that had taken place on the
largely uninhabited island for nearly seventy years. It became a leftist
cause. Liberal icons bumped into one another to fly to Puerto Rico, boat
over to the island, trespass (but never on a day that there was an
exercise
scheduled) and get arrested for the benefit of the New York Times or
Newsweek. They included the Reverend Al Sharpton, Mrs. Jesse Jackson,
Joan Baez, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Edward Olomos, Michael Moore and
Ramsey Clark, just to name a few. Hillary Clinton, then running for the
U.S. Senate in New York, chastised the U.S. Navy for not bowing to the
"will of the citizens of Puerto Rico", until her husband, a week before
the election, issued an executive order to phase out the facility by
2003, despite pleas from his own Secretary of Defense and the Chief of
Naval Operations. In 2002, the bombing exercises were transferred to an
Air Force bombing range in central Florida, not far from the
Jacksonville and Pensacola Naval Air Stations. In January, many of the
protesters were back in Puerto Rico, celebrating the final bombing
exercise on Vieques and waved Puerto Rican flags and placards that read
"U.S. Navy, get out of Puerto Rico." On February 21, Secretary of
Defense Donald Rumsfeld announced that the U.S. Navy will close the
Roosevelt Roads Naval Air Station in Puerto Rico in 2004, eliminating
1,200 civilian jobs as well as 700 military positions. This naval
facility is estimated to put nearly $300 million annually into the local
economy.  The next day a stunned Governor Sila Calderon, held a news
conference in San Juan, protesting the base closure as a serious blow to
the Commonwealth's fragile economy. The governor stated that "The people
of Puerto Rico don't now or never did have an interest in closing the
Vieques bombing range or the Roosevelt Roads naval base. We are
interested in both staying in Puerto Rico." When asked, the Commander-in
Chief, Western Atlantic Command, said, "Without Vieques, I see no
further need for the facility at Roosevelt Roads. None." So, Yankee go
home? Fine. But we'll take our dollars with us. Hasta la vista . . .
baby! On February 21, the Secretary of Defense also announced that
starting this year, the U.S. European Command would begin moving most if
not all of its active combat and support units from bases in Germany to
others being established in Poland, The Czech Republic, Hungary and
Turkey to "better position them for rapid deployment to likely hot spots in
those parts of
the world". Immediately the business and government leaders in the
German states of Hesse, Rhineland and W?berg, protested the loss of
nearly $6 billion in revenue each year from the bases and manpower to be
displaced.  A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry speculated that the
move may be "what the Americans call 'payback' for the actions of this
government in opposing military action in Iraq." Whatever. Does anyone
know the German translation for "Hasta la vista . . baby?"

Oh, ain't it nice to see a government with guts (and a good memory).

Thanks, George.  Keep up the good work.

Thanks to Chief Morey of the LP San Diego Bureau for this one.

InfoWorld: Security blame games. Jon Udell. Open source software partisans never seem to follow their argument to its logical conclusion, however. If more people used Linux and/or Mac OS X, more attackers would exploit the vulnerabilities of these systems. Hardly anybody argues that those systems are invulnerable to attack. [Tomalak's Realm]

Amazing how much Acidman and I think alike even though we come from such different areas of the country (North Dakota in my case).  My northern Cracker ass is a lot smarter than his southern one though because I quit voting two presidential elections ago for the same reasons.  Thats ok because my Cracker ass is 7 years older than his so hes catching up. Gray Gun Stories [nationalreview.com]

The Gray Lady of American newspapers is red with embarrassment caused by reporter Jayson Blair, who admitted that many of his stories involved invention or plagiarism. Some New York Times reporters have expressed concern that the exposure of so many bogus stories over such a long period of time from such a respected newspaper could cause readers of American newspapers to doubt the credibility of what they read. On gun-control issues, those doubts are well-merited; the Times's credibility when it comes to guns is about equal to that of the National Enquirer's reporting on celebrity romances: Some of it is true, a large part is false, and much of the rest is presented in a significantly misleading way.
