The RI-MA-NH-MA circuit

I had a good meeting in RI yesterday afternoon with my friend Carol on the new project. We met for a couple of hours, then walked down to L’Attitude and sat outside under the umbrellas, both of us having baked scrod and drinking white wines. This is the way to work in the summer, no?

After dinner, we walked over to the peninsula, called Long Neck, on the other side of the Pawtuxet Cove, down to the end where there’s a tiny park with a nice view and an even nicer breeze. The area is part of Pawtuxet’s historic district and the houses were to die for. Peeking between the houses on the east side, I could see sailboats on the bright blue Providence River, which flows out into Narragansett Bay. Carol told me that from the other side of the cove, you can see clear out to the Newport Bridge at night when it’s lit up. A couple of years ago, we took a ferry from Providence to Newport for an evening of food and shopping. Coming back late at night, you motor right under the bridge, all illuminated and elegant.

Carol found the Pawtuxet Cove neighborhood she lives in when she was flying in to T.F. Green Airport in Warwick. So of course the flight patterns direct and low over her house are something you have to get used to. Other than that, it seems like a great place to live – especially, of course, in summer.

Storms

Well, the astro forecast is for hypersensitivity and vulnerable feelings, so I guess I may as well indulge. M is away for two weeks at a writing workshop and I haven’t heard from him since Sunday. I am feeling sad and neglected. I’ve also been hormonal and not sleeping well enough, which has given me a painful kink in my neck. Last night I took three Advil and went to bed around 11, but then we had a wild thunderstorm some time in the night that woke me up with house-shaking booms and flashes of lightning that made the inside of the house look like a horror movie. The wind blew a lamp off its stand in my living room.

I did get back to sleep, and this morning between the sun shining and doing my writing, my mood is improving, though if I stop for even a second I notice anxiety hanging around me like low fog.

I’m going to give myself a long weekend to relax and do summer things before I morph back from being a lady of leisure (read: bum) into a working professional on Monday. Today I’m heading up to see my folks on the NH seacoast for a couple of days. Then on the 4th, I’m driving up to the NH Lakes Region to hang out with my friend Amy and her family at the cottage they’re renting on a little pond north of Lake Winnipesaukee. They have kayaks to paddle around in, and we’ll have a casual cookout and later drive over to see the local fireworks show.

I hope you all have a safe and fun holiday weekend. Happy 4th of July!
