Tote bag full of weekend

After a relatively cool and rainy spring and summer, we're now in the midst of a heat wave - it's been mid-80s to 90 degrees F and very humid. So when M brought his kayaks out mid-afternoon yesterday, it couldn't have been a better day for it. Out on a nearby lake, strong breezes blowing across the water, sunny blue sky with big puffy clouds, paddling around, stopping now and then to just float and talk and splash water at each other... perfect. Later, good food, good music, good feelings... flip on the TV to see how the Sox are doing... What?? They traded Nomar? Are you kidding? Wow. (This being Boston, the trade was the lead story on the front page of the Globe today.)

Today I drove up to see my folks in NH, took my mom shopping in Portsmouth (I picked up a cool Mexican oilcloth tote bag for the beach and whatnot), came back and watched the Sox lose (again) with my dad, then we all went out for an early dinner before I returned home. My mom must say at least 15 times per visit how she wishes I lived closer, and 25 times how they don't see anyone or if they did it wasn't for long enough, can't meet people at their age, can't see these people for this reason and those people for some other reason. She's awfully depressed - I hope they can fix her meds and get her feeling better.

Home now and it's late and I'm tired and I have a busy work week ahead. I'll have to find time to take a break and write when I can. Gosh, how do people work full time?!
