Light dawns on Marblehead*

Maybe I just knew that it was going to be a beautiful day.

Currently: 71°F Clear

Wind: West at 8.0 MPH

                    Barometer: 30.16  inches and rising

                    Heat Index: 75°F

 

*New England expression referring to when a particularly dense person finally comprehends something. Marblehead is a seaside town north of Boston, set on a penninsula jutting out into the Atlantic, where, indeed, it catches some of the earliest light in the state, after Cape Cod.

This morning

Drape darkened dawn

color inhibited,

HEPA-filtered white noise

still spinning all-night prayers

up to the cathedral ceiling.

Curled on one side of my bed

as between the Atlantic

and the Mississippi, one arm extended

to the desolate continent to my west,

discovered and lost successively,

a place of nomads.

Yet something stirs me –

no cries of children,
insistent consort

nor office obligations –

just the sun moving west

revealing increments

assigning names one by one

uncurling in me

an unexpected joy.
