Sex and burritos

Over on A line cast, a hope followed, Susurra de Luz posts a nice meditation on "El futuro es hoy" and the burrito in various forms. Intrigued, I googled "burrito" myself and came across "Cylindrical God" - "An Essay on Sex and Burritos" that's pretty hilarious (the opening lines about the dominatrix/ performance artist's use of the burrito in her act is priceless). The article also happens to be rather edifying on the origins of the burrito, which is what I was looking for, innocently enough (as I suspected, it's Chicano not Mexican):

Like the Christian bundle of joy himself, the burrito was born in exile. But a century later it has found its Jerusalem in the Mission District, where thousands worship daily at taqueria temples...

So while Cassandra riffs eloquently on Elck's sublime Silverberg Variations (highly recommended, and be sure to listen to the Chaconne while reading it for full effect), Susurra de Luz and I are busy riffing on the virtues of the lowly burrito (or is that exalted burrito?). The final words quoted in the Cylindrical God essay are given to a man whose job it is to ponder the burrito's soul: "It's like trying to describe the meaning of life."

(Speaking of google, I can only imagine the google hits I'm going to get now.)

Autumn equinox
