This is your brain on PowerPoint

I haven’t had much to post this week – busy with work, busy with extra Bibi walking because Marta threw her back out one day and then went away for a few days. Yesterday, I had several phone calls from friends I haven’t talked to in awhile, and last night I noticed the lingering contented feeling left over from those exchanges, and a boost in energy. I love working at home, but it can get isolating when I’m not getting my recommended daily allowance of connection in one form or another.

Everyone is so busy it seems we rarely see each other. One friend I talked to yesterday is the one I’ll be house- and dog-sitting for next week. Of course I’ll only be visiting her dog and her house, not her, but we did get a good long conversation in on the phone. Often, even phone calls are rushed lately. I’m looking forward to spending a couple of days at the Cape with friends the end of August, which will offer some relaxing, free-form time together. Plus I talked to my housemate and she is en route and should be back tomorrow afternoon.

So I’ve not had much time to think or read or write. I’ve been browsing people’s blogs periodically and, in response to their deeply thoughtful posts and other people’s deeply thoughtful comments, I’m leaving comments not unlike “Leroy was here” graffiti or “it’s all about me” chatter. Gads. I should probably not comment or post until I’ve had time to clear my head – I seem to be totally incapable of deep thoughts at the moment, or creative thoughts, either! Soon, soon…

I did manage to get my head tuned in to cranking out this technical training project and I submitted a PowerPoint file with 170 slides in it. Death by PowerPoint. This afternoon, my friend Carol, who secured this gig and is project managing it along with writing her own modules, called me to tell me she thought this beast of a module I wrote was “a work of beauty.” I wouldn’t use the word “beauty,” but I was happy for her compliment. I know she was worried because every time I’ve talked to her about it I sounded like I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. In truth, it only came together late last night when I stepped back from it and spent time putting some helpful organizing touches into it.

That’s the news from here. Hope you’re all relishing the remains of the summer.
