Winding down

Although it’s still early August, it seems the summer is already winding down here. We’ve had some cool weather, especially at night, which is nice for sleeping. I’m working so much I’m not getting to do many summer things like go to the beach. Not that I’m complaining, given that I’ve desperately needed to work, but summer is my favorite time of year. Fall is beautiful here, but hay fever has always put a bit of a damper on that. The last couple of years, my hay fever hasn’t been so bad, so maybe this year my energy won’t be sapped by it and I can do lots of bicycling and maybe some hiking, good ways to enjoy being outdoors in the fall before the long cold winter.

One more thing winding down is my telenovela, which finally announced on Friday that it’s in las ultimas semanas, the final weeks, which will go on for maybe a month. It started in March, so this has been a fairly long telenovela. I’m enjoying the actors, but some of the plot lines have been pretty laughable. Still, of all the ones I’ve watched, this has been among my favorites. My housemate Kathy is returning next week for the fall semester of her second year in vet school, just in time for las ultimas capitulos, so we’ll be able to enjoy these together. The big question is not whether our hero and heroine will be back together, which is assured, but how the villain is going to meet his end. My favorite denouement was in Gate Salvaje, set in Miami, when the evil Eva was eaten by an alligator. It just doesn’t get any better than that. I’ll have to see if the new one starting after this ends will be worth watching; I should watch, because it’s my only Spanish practice these days. Hopefully, my Monday mornings sipping mate and hablando with las Argentinas will pick up again in the fall, too. Everyone has been too busy most of this summer.

Update:

Ah, but it is still summer - go along on Beth's evocative walk in the Florida Panhandle on a humid August Afternoon (at Switched at Birth).
