Postcards from the edge

I was talking with someone about my blog the other night and I said I don’t understand why certain people seem to like it, people who I wouldn’t expect to. I mean there are readers who I think I have things in common with, who if we worked together, say, I could imagine us sitting around shooting the shit together a lot. But there are others who surprise me. Like 14-year-old Andrew, who recently commented here. I’m delighted to be able to connect with such a diverse bunch of people, both here and in the blogs I read – a much more broad range of personalities with various interests and ideas and backgrounds than I ever get to encounter in person.

I told my companion that I didn’t want to examine too closely why people might read here because I’m using this blog for creative self-expression and I don’t necessarily want to restrict myself to what I think people want to see. But it is interesting for me to discover what people respond to as well as, over time, where this vehicle may be taking me. I set out with this blog last September not really knowing what I was going to do with it, but intuitively knowing it could be a good outlet for me. It has been – and more than an outlet, an inlet! An estuary where the river meets the tides. Also, I think it may, just as with any journal, help me find a voice and even a creative direction I want to dive more deeply into.

Meanwhile, I have to thank Ernesto for his comment that I read this morning when I got up: “your blog is like a collection of postcards from a better world...” I hadn’t thought of it that way, but it’s an interesting metaphor to keep in mind! (BTW, if you can read Spanish, he has a wonderful poem on his site that I think relates to the many of us who post our writings and photos or drawings on our blogs as postcards from our worlds to yours.)

Irrational exuberance

My current astro.com transits:

Neptune opposition Uranus: Out of your mind

(1 July 2004 until 6 September 2004; since at least April)

…Others may think you have gone out of your mind because of what you do and see at this time, but do not be concerned…

Jupiter conjunction Sun: Exuberant optimism

(24 July 2004 until 4 August 2004)

Traditionally this is considered one of the most marvelous influences, and indeed it is quite good. At the very least, you will feel good at this time. Your health is good, and you feel very optimistic…

I have the “out of your mind” part down. Just waiting for the exuberance to kick in. Then watch out!
