Senate Campaign News 20040812

As the Gulf coast battens down for Charley, here's a late roundup of the news in the campaign for Florida's U.S. Senate seat.

Mel Martinez has been penciled in for a slot to speak at the Republican convention. It appears that f he wins the nomination, he will speak on the final night, just before the President. McCollum's campaign declined comment, and Gallagher's and Byrd's campaign expressed displeasure over the slot not being left to whoever the nominee ends up being.
