I spent my unscheduled day off doing meteorology homework that piled up while I watched Ivan. Here's a couple of tidibits: Robin Jones survived Ivan in Mobile. Pensacola News-Journal reports that pretty much every bridge in the area sustained significant damage and that all are closed at this time. They have an extensive Ivan photo gallery posted. Hurricane force winds extend 50 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend 290 miles from the center (mainly southeast from the center) Ivan is weakening and the next problem continues to be the prospect of him stalling over the southern Appalachians News from Florida - In addition to the two people killed in tornados near Panama city, five were killed in tornados in Blountstown. - A section of east-bound lanes on I-10's Escambia Bay Bridge has been lost to the sea. - Escambia County hosopitals have sustained "significant damage" From Alabama: - The broadcast tower of Moible's NBC affiliate, WPMI is down and for a period of time, the only people watching them were those watching the webcast (they are now being broadcast by the UPN affiliate for the area). - Their reporters are saying that Gulf Shores took heavy damage and report that large amounts of water have flooded the area . The eye of Ivan is just starting to come ashore in Baldwin County Alabama and extends from Fort Morgan to Gulf Shores. That strip of beach running from there northwest to Pensacola is going to have a rough night. When the sun rises, some of it may not be there anymore. This is my last post of the evening. I'll fall asleep listening to Mobile's WPMI . ![]() Weather comment []2:43:44 AM   ![]() |
Just as Fort Myers' NBC affiliate did for Charley, Palm Beach''s afilliate did for Frances, and Orlando's did for both, Mobile's NBC affiliate, WPMI has a live webcast going. And I'm watching; just as I did in the previous storms. Weather comment []12:03:17 AM   ![]() |
