There's a little thread running through some automation blogs kicked off by Jim Cahill announcing the first birthday of Emerson Process Experts. Nick Belardes over at ProSoft Blog realized his blog's birthday had happened. Then Carl Henning over at the ProfiBlog. Nick thought maybe I was at a year and a half or so. Actually, people only started really noticing within the past two years. I started playing around with a blog in December 2003. This is my 951st post. I had been reading about blogs for a while and researching tools and decided to take the plunge. I settled on Radio Userland and still use it (even though all the big technology guys like Robert Scoble, Dave Winer and Jon Udell all left Userland for other tools a couple of years ago). I also haven't taken the time to play with the header graphics. Maybe something to play with over vacation.
I'm looking at WordPress right now to set up a couple of other blogs. One will be for Automation World -- a space for Wes and Jane plus all our contributing editors. Another will be personal for one of my other fields of study -- philosophy and spirituality (I've had several conversations about that topic with other automation types over the past couple of years). Maybe I'll do a soccer one, too.
I also did the Flickr thing, but I'm not an obsessive picture taker, so I don't keep that one up. I doubt that I get into video blogging (I'm having trouble getting people to talk into a microphone for the podcasts I do--oh, yes, I just passed a year of podcasting).
The real question is where do I find the time for all this.
