I was starting to get Tablet PC envy last January when I saw Bill Morrison's (Emerson Process marketing) tablet. Looked way cool. My work laptop is a PowerBook G4. 12 inch model. I had a 17 inch one, but traded it in for various reasons within the company. Thought it might travel better, but with airline seats the way they are today, I can't even open this little dude. So airline time is better spent with podcasts. But if I had a tablet... Then last fall a company came out with a Mac tablet. Trouble is, would the headaches of configuring two machines and syncing them outweigh the cool factor? Looking at the way I work, I've been using a Palm device for 10 years very much like a tablet. The small form factor is great for many things, but it's inhibiting to use like a tablet. So, I'm still evaluating.
On the Mac front, though, I saw a news clip (didn't save it, so I can't link) of someone observing the types of machines geeks are bringing to those high-tech conferences in California. Seems the number of Linux boxes is dwindling and the number of Macs is picking up. Not scientific, but interesting.
By the way, we have Macs partly because it was thought they would be easier to support. My Windows 2000 professional machine was very stable--until struck by lightning. Now my other machine is a Windows XP laptop. My wife uses it for the most part and has no operating system issues. After 20 years, we're finally getting usable computes.
I notice from product press releases in the automation business that companies are beginning to support just about all form factors. Seamless information access. That's darn near nirvana. Just what I'm seeking.
