I'm not lost, just been mostly away from the Internet for two days. More later--I have a day job. I need to proof a bunch of stuff for the April Automation World. During my Rockwell meetings Tuesday, someone asked why I blog and is it business or personal. Well, I blog as a way to get personalized thoughts written. The fact that so many people read it, I find amazing. When I began (in 2003) Blogging was still pretty new and I was just playing around. I set up my blog tool to handle three different types of writing--industry-related, soccer and philosophy. This is a personal blog, not really sanctioned by Automation World (sort of), except that our ace sales guy thought he should be able to sell it. There are no ads on this blog, but he did sell a series of email newsletters based on it "The Best of the Blog." So there is some crossover.
Same with my Flickr photo site (but I'm not an obsessive picture taker) and my podcast. I've played with some ideas for the podcast--mainly trying to get guests to interview. I take my little iRiver mp3 player/recorder with me all the time. Up until now, I've only been able to get Rockwell VP Keiron Coulton to speak. I also interviewed the program chair of the last MESA conference. Then last week I interviewed an Advantech product manager on Ethernet. It was a great, non-commercial chat about an important new automation technology. I just saw a layout of an email newsletter featuring that podcast (the aforementioned sales guy sold one of those, too) it had a picture of Paul from Advantech and a large ad from Advantech. Lest you think I'm part of their marketing campaign, not. But there are great thoughts there. Tomorrow I plan to interview Jim Pinto about his latest trip to India and a visit with a large well-known company. I hope to get more of those.
More on the Rockwell visit a little later. The MARTS 2007 conference where I spoke on intelligent sensing was good yesterday. While there I happened upon a working group meeting of MIMOSA. More on that later, as well, after I digest all this information over the past two days.
