I drove up to the Chicago office this morning (so no "real" work got done today). I have one of those little FM transmitters for my iPod and listen to Podcasts most of the way. Here's a good one from Phil Windley's Technometria featuring Lonn Johnston of Page One PR. Lot of high tech stuff in there, but some good interaction between a PR pro and an Infoworld blogger. This was timely. I've had several conversations with PR people over the past several weeks. Seems like the wrong ones read the posts that I've taken from Cluetrain about clueless PR. Of course, I should realize that the clueless ones don't read this blog--or they'd have a clue. As I've said, there are quite a few good ones out there--and some of them even have clients that let them be pros. But there are many who need to learn--things like which magazine to pitch, what reporters want, which ones are technical and which aren't and how to pitch each type, and that sort of thing. So, if you are reading this blog, then you probably aren't one of the ones that drive me crazy.
Tomorrow, I'm off to Milwaukee and a thorough briefing with Rockwell Automation. Not sure right now what will be postable, so I may not have a lot to say. Wednesday I'm speaking at an 11:40 seminar session at the MARTS 2007 conference at the Rosemont Convention Center. I've never been to that conference. Should be interesting. They allow for a 40 minute presentation, but unless I'm teaching Law 11-Offside-to an entry level soccer referee class, I think that's pretty long. I hope to limit myself to 20 minutes and have a great discussion with the audience on what things work in their plants. If you're in the area, stop in and say hi.
