OOPS

National Geographic, which spurred the early debates about digital photography ethics by moving a pyramid to tighten up a cover shot, has had to apologize from some real-life tom-foolery: a photographer who faked photographs.

To its credit, the magazine has taken it seriously, written a detailed description of what went wrong and promised to tighten up its scrutiny.

OH, LIGHTEN UP

Rabid right-wing TV commentator:

Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" will "have an influence on this presidential election," says Fox News host Bill O'Reilly. "That is scary. ... Eighty-seven percent [of its viewers] are intoxicated."

Host of the afore-mentioned Daily Show:

Jon Stewart acknowledges the growing clout of "The Daily Show": "I think we're kingmakers, it's clear. I would not be surprised if, in this election, tens of people change their votes."

Rabid, humorless Republican lapdog or acerbic, self-effacing, fake-news host? I have no doubt about who I'd rather listen to.
