Not your father's Oldsmobile

Although General Motors' Oldsmobile car nameplate is now a thing of the past, many old Oldses remain on the road -- like the one I saw in a gas station today, sporting its model name logo "Intrigue".

Directly beneath that was a license plate inscribed with "U.S. Government."

Sports Fundamentalism

In 25 years of existence, ESPN has proven itself capable of covering every conceivable sport, including several of dubious aerobic conditioning value like the World Series of Poker and the National Spelling Bee.

Now, the network will venture overseas in search of ever more exotic sports to broadcast -- such as this one, described in an LA Times article about Iraq:

One U.S. colonel formerly charged with guarding the western borders with Syria, Saudi Arabia and Jordan said a virtual "Jihad Super Bowl" took place last spring and summer as foreign militants poured in.
