Our Political Jesus [posted by ZelderBar]
Today is Palm Sunday, as Christians prepare for Easter, which is hopping up to us next week. As the Christian Holy Week approaches, we see Jesus being used in the continual game of political badminton. The NY Times reports that John McCain Turning to the right by visitng Jerry Falwell, even though McCain called Falwell an agent of "interolerance." McCain may suffer the fate of Bob Dole. He can't decide if he is moderate or a right-winger, and in the end, neighter moderates or righ-wingers will accept him. At the same time, Gary Willis of Northwestern University presents a warning to both Republicans and Democrats in the NY Times about the use of Jesus as a political tool. Willis notes that "Christian politics" does not really exist.
