Alexandria to Carnegie [posted by Troy]
Check out this history of libraries article. It is logical that the growth of literacy spawned the growth of libraries. Today, libraries are becoming more than reading rooms. They are community centers, computer access points, and cultural collectors. In a recent study that our library did, we found that many of our students who cannot afford technology at home, but also cannot make the trip into the college, use their local public libraries to check online assignments for classes or to type papers. I am not sure how, but somehow my college library did not get included in the article about the history of libraries.
