Mmmmmm The kitchen is smelling heavenly. Joe is making some sort of slow roasted Mediterranean dish for dinner. My contribution is a cranberry-peach crisp. My stomach is growling in gleeful anticipation.
Jamie got his first job today - at Dairy Queen. He wanted to work there last fall but wasn't old enough. Then the other day the boss sent home an application form with Jamie's friend, who also works there. To be honest I think the stores and restaurants here are scrambling to make sure they have enough staff for the Canada Winter Games, which start in about six weeks or so. Anyway, we'll give this a try and see if he can keep up with school (not that he knocks himself out doing school work at the best of times).
I booked our Buenos Aires lodgings today - got the spot I wanted in the first place. Going directly through the hostel they told me they didn't have any rooms available, but when I tried booking through the hostel association, there was no problem. It gets great reviews from Lonely Planet and various on-line forums and promises to be central, very clean, safe, and even offers free tango and salsa lessons. Twin room, breakfast included, is about $40 Canadian a night. Can't beat that.
By the way, I must tell you a funny story. Lonely Planet has a forum called Thorn Tree, where you can ask questions of other travellers. Since Iris wants to go clubbing, I posted a question about whether I would look out of place at a club, or did other 'older people' go there too. A woman responded by saying that quite frankly, I would stick out like a sore thumb and maybe I should wait outside!! Of course, that makes me want to go all the more!
