Why Worms Shun Apple's OSX
Mac OSX Worms

BusinessWeek has an interesting article entitled Why Worms Shun Apple's OSX. This is obviously a hot topic among Mac users and this article in particular goes beyond the typical "Macs only make up 5% of the market so no one bothers writing viruses for them" mentality that permeates so many PC users.

From the article:

OS X offers inherently better security for several reasons. The most important is that it was designed with relatively little concern for compatibility with earlier versions, while Windows is full of compromises so that it works with older and less secure operating systems.

Definitely an interesting read if you are at all curious about why Mac OSX has such a superior track record when it comes to viruses, spyware, ad-ware and malware which can make life on a PC anything but enjoyable.

High Resolution Goodness for Apple Cinema Display Users

RubikPromo.jpg
So you are one of the lucky ones who gets to sit in front of Apple's latest beautiful new displays going all the way up to 30" spouting 4 MILLION pixels -- now, what are you gonna put on it? Having that much screen real estate are your disposal, you will quickly learn that the collection of wallpapers that you've been hoarding for all those years just don't scale up to such a high resolution.

Believe it or not, there are actually companies out there who cater to just this need - creating some of the most beautiful wallpapers that you've ever seen, designed specifically for Apple's high end visual masterpieces. There's a lot of also-rans out there but the king of the hill in my mind is none other than England's Rob Randtoul who is the founder of Plasma Design, home to many of the finest high definition wallpapers for the Mac.

You can browse the site to get a feel for his offerings, and if you are anything like me, no matter how cool the wallpaper may be, it's likely to get changed often so having a steady supply of visual goodness is a must have to keep our creative sides from getting bored. To answer that need, Plasma Design offers a lifetime membership for a very reasonable price with Rob creating new pieces all the time. Plasma Design is a 100% Macintosh shop with everything that comes out being designed and produced on a Mac. I've always belived in having a stimulating work environment and Plasma Design's wallpapers have graced my displays for several years now -- and they look especially nice on a 30" cinema display. They also offer dual display wallpapers for those of you lucky enough to work on two Apple cinema displays. Give them a look.
