Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Jeff Powell - Ruby on RailsI have seen the future (mine at least) and it shines like a Ruby. If you do anything even remotely resembling development on the web these days, your head has absolutely got to be swimming with the plethora of new acronyms and technologies being paraded out, showcasing what they can do with these new tools.

Along these lines, you've no doubt come across the new smash hit single that is racing up the charts known as Ruby on Rails which just recently celebrated it's first birthday. Now deciding where to focus your energies towards learning a new technology is always an interesting dilemma that makes one harken back to the old days where you could learn a programming language (like C) and that's the language that you would spend the rest of your career programming in. Now days, you learn a language and by the time it has completely gelled with your mind, it's time to learn something else! (only partially kidding).

I'll devote more time and space to this topic sometime in the near future but suffice it to say, I'm currently staring at two fine books and seeing a possible future speciality on creating the types of applications that they were designed to write. The two books are:

I've also recently subscribed to the Ruby on Rails Podcast which is actually quite good. I'm currently at the point in the learning process where I can now do much of the basics but I'm still working to grok the fundamentals of the rails framework and how it goes about working it's magic. All that aside, it took about 30 minutes before I had one of those "Holy Shit!" moments where I realize just how powerful these two technologies were and their image on my future so I've decided to just do whatever it takes to master Ruby on Rails.
