Office Observations (or Slow Friday) Yes, snay, I do have an office.  It is hot and oppressive, with no window.  Of course, since today is Good Friday and the last Friday of the University's Spring Break it is dead around here.  Consequently, I have some random observations I made while in the office today.  Although we were re-orged with the beginning of the New Year, we are still housed with the former members of our group.  Included in that group, are the students who would answer our main phones, route calls, and perform checks of the labs we support.  Two of these students are incredibly useless to me.  Today, they are both giggling--as they are girls--over someone's digital photos.  Yes, it's a slow day, but do something less like a 13-year-old.  Here are some of the other things I have seen them brazenly doing: enjoying the modern college phenomenon that is thefacebook.com watching complete seasons of "Sex and the City," with the sound turned on and no attempt to hide the fact they are watching it (at least I know what a Mac is good for).  People do not understand how business continuity and disaster recovery work together.  Further, they do not understand the prioritization of services to be restored in the event of an outage.  I found this cool site on the Internets, Stairway to Heaven Backwards.  Originally seen via Boing Boing, play some of the tunes that the gentleman has there.  Essentially, it is a site that picks some tunes to play backwards, mainly in jest.  I thought the Britney Spears tune was hilarious.  I need to find a good domain name to point off to this blog, but all the ones that make sense for me are taken.  Damn you, Internet Squatters!  I am bolting out of here at 3 PM to go get a haircut.  If I do not post before the end of the day, go have a weekend.  1:56:45 PM    comment []  trackback []

Hockey Smack As others have mentioned, the NCAA Men's Hockey Tournament begins today.  For those of you who have no idea what hockey is, the description is here (not withstanding the lack of a professional season this year).  BU plays the Fighting Sioux of North Dakota tonight at 8 PM in the East Regional in Worcester, Massachusetts.  Presuming that last week's performance against UNH was an aberration, it might be a BU-BC matchup in the East Regional Final.  Time to find someplace that has ESPNU.  Go BU!! 8:04:12 AM    comment []  trackback []
