I know my confidence in the Orioles has come up in this blog before,
but how nice it was to see the hated Yankees swept by the O's. I
see that Steinbrenner's nearly $200 million has not gotten him too
much. ;-) Actually, it is nice to see two series wins from
the Yankees--wins that I have not seen in a long time.
However, three things from the series pops out at me. First, the
Birds came back after letting the Yanks take the lead on
Saturday. That's something this team has not done a lot of in the
last 5 years. It's like they had confidence that they were going
to win it. Secondly, for the first time in a very long time, the
annoyingly vocal contingent of Yankee fans that were in attendance were
actually shouted down on both Saturday and Sunday. Finally, the
Orioles are really good hitters with two outs--Tejada's grand slam came
with two outs, and other runs came in when the Birds had two
outs.
The realist in me, though, says that it is only the second week of the
baseball season. On paper, the Yankees will not be that bad come
late
July. Still, it is nice to see the O's playing differently than they
have the last few years. I will be there tonight with some
visiting college friends watching them smack around the favorite team of this guy and another friend. As Fool said, Go O's!! :-P

Yesterday, I returned home from a weekend trip to Ft. Lauderdale to
attend the wedding of an old college friend. It was a good time,
as it is always fun to get together with the usual gang of college
chums.
Of course, the last two weekends have contained copious amounts of the following:
- hemorhagging of funds;
- consumption of food, both good and bad for me;
- incredibly late nights and small amounts of sleep; and
- massive intake of alcoholic beverages.
Thus, the last two weekends have ended with me returning home to
Baltimore weary, merely wanting some rest, detoxification, and downtime
with my girl. These trips are fun and something I enjoy, but it
can get tiring if you do it on two consecutive weekends, especially if
you add trying to squeeze five days of work into three. Of
course, it does not help when you have to deal with a somewhat
interesting and unexpected family matter upon your return (grist for a
future post).
Now, I am home in Baltimore with no large travel plans at all. I need to get down to Ocean Pines to see my family there, but that is the only travel I need to do. Of course, I need to squeeze that in between the football games on Saturday.
As Frank Sinatra said: It's nice to go traveling, but it's oh so nice to come home!
