diff
on Linux is quite nice. In the attempt to determine what files
may have been missed during this weekend's upgrade, I needed to find a
way to figure out what files were missing on the destination
volume. In the past, Rsync for NetWare
has been quite nice in this effort. The log file I created,
however, was incredibly useless to me in determining what might have
been missing on the new volume.
Come to find out that diff is
quite handy, as it will not just tell me the difference between two
files, but it will also tell me the difference between
directories. And this was made easier by being able to login and
map drives via the Novell Client for Linux. I logged in, and I
mapped two drives to the old and new volume, respectively. I then
dropped to a console and entered the command
diff -ir I H >diff.log.
As I write this, it is churning away on the difference between the old
and new volumes. It is taking longer than I expected, but I will
gladly endure that for a much clearer definition of what is different
between the new and old volumes.
UPDATE:
Damn Novell Client for Linux just barfed on me. Looks like I get
to start over, and see how long it takes this time around.
