With one week down, things are starting to calm a bit at the
office. I am currently still without a working machine. One
of our accountants had a problem with his, and I gave mine up for him
to work. Needless to say, getting a Linux laptop working in an
organization that is a Windows shop is difficult.
Hunt Valley is an interesting place to work. Granted, in my one
week here, I have yet to step out and see much more than where I went
for lunch last week. By the way, Snay and Neckbone, I am in your neck of the woods. When things calm down, we should do lunch.
I do like the commute, though. The only hairy part is the commute
in the morning when going through the city to get onto the Jones Falls
Expressway. Aside from that, it is smooth sailing. I have
been silently mocking everyone who is headed south on I-83 as I pass
them heading north.
I have been working a lot of late hours, but I somewhat expected that
given the environment I was approaching. I have some ideas
already of what needs to be addressed, but my only problem in doing so
is finding the time to do so. A lot of my time--as I
expected--has been consumed by small things that I have had to take
care of. Part of that has been me getting up to speed, because as
with most small businesses documentation has been somewhat
lacking.
Finally, I need to find some type of quick Wiki I can setup.
There are lots of things that I am finding that I need to document, and
given my somewhat disconnected nature of late this is becoming somewhat
difficult. Chances are, I will need to install it on a Windows
machine. No chance for me to buy servers within the next 3-6
months, I reckon.
Time to go home. I have been here too long today.
