One warning, if you're gonna use my templates. My current item template requires you to use the HTML editor in Radio, not the WYSIWYG one (remember, my goal is to have standards-complaint HTML). It also requires you to put a "p" tag around each paragraph. If you don't know what a "p" tag is, then I'll need to tweak these templates for your use. If you see anything you don't understand, feel free to write me a question: robertscoble@hotmail.com is my email.

Dan Shafer just asked me for my CSS style sheet and Radio templates. Here they are for everyone. I'd love to know if there's something I could do to improve these. But, they are pretty optimized. Did you see how much lighter weight these are than the default templates? Yeah, baby. My page loads faster than yours does. Neener neener neener.

Dan Shafer: "Who cares?"

Ahh, the most excellent Dan Shafer, who I must take out for sushi again soon. Now +that's+ something I could care about! Oh, just cause I wrote about Googlefighting now it's a big trend, huh? Shit. Next I'll know the New York Times will say there's a new trend in getting married in Casinos to Iranians.

Another thing I'm going to start doing is reading weblogs outside of the normal little circle I usually read in. Anil Dash is the first of those. I found I've started to just visit Doc, Dan, and Dave. Need to get out more. How do you find new weblogs?

Ahh, but the fight becomes far fairer if you put your names in quotes. Now I kicked "Brad Wilson"'s ass! Heh. Dave Winer still kicks my ass, though.

Brad Wilson kicks my ass on Googlefight too.

ASP.NET co-creator Mark Anders, Microsoft, will be interviewed on .NET Rocks tomorrow. Thanks to Sam Gentile for the link.

Photo software focuses on masses. Dan Slavin is confident he has the answer for bringing digital photography to a mainstream audience: photo software for people who don't like to use photo software. [CNET News.com]

Two New iPAQ's. Hewlett Packard plans to release two new iPAQ's for the holidays, including it's slimmest model yet and a higher end model aimed toward corporate users. The low-end, slim model will be priced between $200 and $400; the high-end model, complete with 802.11b wireless networking and a built in fingerprint reader... [Lockergnome's Bits and Bytes]

What's So Good About Pocket PC?. Microsoft, true to form, is making a run at the handheld operating system market from all sides. Partnerships with hardware manufacturers are important, but making inroads with application developers may be even more critical in helping the behemoth repeat what it was able to accomplish on the desktop. It's the economy stupid.

MSNBC now doesn't even have the dock lockout on their front page. Who the fuck sets the news judgment over there?

Yes, I'm going to swear. Our jobs are being destroyed and MSNBC's news judgment tells me that no one cares.

Update: CNN has it on its front page, but low on the page.

By the way, the dock lockout is hitting tech companies hard here in Silicon Valley. I hear that some of our server components are stuck on a ship moored out in the bay somewhere. It hasn't hurt us that much yet (we still have supplies of parts we can fly in from elsewhere) but some companies, like the GM plant here, are almost shut down. Maybe we should go and picket the docks and tell the union that they are being jerks and we don't appreciate our jobs being put in jeopardy.

I do wonder why more weblogs aren't talking about this, though? It's almost like our heads are stuck in the sand about the damage this union is doing to the economy. Should one union be able to hold a gun to everyone's head this way? And, yes, I blame the union. These guys are playing hard ball with their management. Most of us don't have that ability. I know that if I tried playing hardball with my boss I'd be out on the street. I don't have a lot of sympathy, particularly when so many of my friends are unemployed.

I really like the news search feature over at Google. Here's a search on TabletPC news

OK, I see that Acer is hoping to sell 150,000 to 200,000 TabletPCs next year. Um, are they smoking crack over there? I really hope they are right, because that means the market for Tablets is stronger than I expect it is. I wonder: will those sales come from people new to PCs who are waiting for Tablets, or will it come from people who really just wanted a laptop and the Tablet functionality looks cool?

By the way, thanks for the quote to TabletPCTalk. I see that on Monday they'll have links to some cool presentations and stuff. This site is already becoming my defacto TabletPC site (and everyone here at NEC is now reading it as well).

Anyway, get ready for the hype to swing into overdrive soon. Yeah, I asked my boss to give me a TabletPC for our November 2 wedding (wouldn't it be cool to read our vows off of a Tablet?) but it turns out that all of the early units are getting sent to New York for the November 7th Tablet launch event. Darn. I guess we'll have to do the same thing with PocketPCs.

I'm a geek, shoot me.

This weekend I gotta work on my blogroll. First item on the agenda: add all my favorite .NET webloggers. Hey, Sam Gentile is reading here today, I see. Might as well start with him.

Thanks Frank! Yeah, glad to be posting again too. Yeah, it has a lot to do with my love and happiness getting back into my life. Now that I finally have a decent standards-based design here, and my productivity is starting to go up, I just need to start writing useful stuff again. Lately I feel I just haven't been writing very well. Partly that's due to the industry just not giving me much to discuss. With the new Tablet computers coming, that'll change a bit, but even then, the technology world is in a slump and I'm not so sure it's gonna change anytime soon.

As much as I hate tobacco companies, there is no way that one smoker should get $28 billion because she says they didn't warn her of the dangers. Sorry, but one life ain't worth that much. Surely this will get thrown at an appeal level. Juries are so stupid sometimes.

I woke up this morning with my angel in my arms. RageBoy wishes he were so lucky!

CSS is cool. I change one item on my style sheet and the color changes on every page on my weblog with one upload. It takes less than 30 seconds to change hundreds of pages.

The RIAA is trying to get an ISP to reveal the name of a customer that they think has downloaded music.

My brother just said "someone should tell Bush 'it's the economy stupid.'"

I agree. If Bush doesn't figure out that he better switch gears off of terrorism and toward the economy, he'll be out of a job soon. He should learn the lesson of his dad. You can be hugely popular mid-term, but if you let the economy sink, you'll be out of a job yourself.

Good morning! Question: what's the most important news story to the West Coast today? Can anyone say "port dock lockout?" Yet MSNBC tells us about the trial of the guy who had a bomb in his shoes. That guy is not able to affect any of our lives anymore. The port workers are gonna put thousands of people out of work. All because they don't wanna give up their entitlements. I hate entitlements. They already have jobs guaranteed for life. I wish I had such a guarantee. And people wonder why unions aren't appreciated in American life? Fuck them.
