Wish List for Outline Node Types: A way to specify a node icon without having to change the node type. I suggest having an 'icon' attribute that refers to an icon file. If present, it's used. If not, use whatever the 'type' attribute defines. Why? Because Zope Folders work just fine as 'link' nodes, but I want to display the folder icon rather than the link icon.

I've been playing with Radio and Zope interop again, looking for a cleaner way to do the Zope Management System, as I had coded myself into a corner with the project. Following the pending introduction of the Instant Outliner, I'm playing with Zope generating OPML. I think that's the way to go.

It's a funny cycle -- at first ZopeFish was all about making Zope look like Manila, because that's what Radio wanted to see. Then UserLand introduced node types, and I bent them to my will and created the ZMS, which is where we are right now. Now I think that making Zope produce OPML is the way to go, and we'll see how far I get with that. So I've gone from abusing Zope to abusing Radio to hopefully finding a middle ground that plays well with everyone.

Sometimes I feel like all I'm doing is following UserLand's tail lights, but that's okay. They've got a lot to teach, and I'll always have a lot to learn. They are leading me to some very interesting places. I hope I can stay focused long enough to deliver something interesting, but that's hard to do when I'm getting paid to do other things.

Now if I could just get used to these new glasses.
