A picture named DSC00459.jpgWe had big rain showers tonight, the kind you see back east, but hardly ever in Alaska. I ran outside to take this shot, and though I'm not especially happy with the result, it's not bad for a first attempt at photographing 'the splash'.  11:42:23 PM  permalink   Add a comment

Dave Winer: "A news aggregator is 'software that periodically reads a set of news sources, in one of several XML-based formats, finds the new bits, and displays them in reverse-chronological order on a single page.'"

Dave, I hate to say it, but you're wrong. A news aggregator is oftware that periodically reads a set of news sources, in one of several XML-based formats, finds the new bits, and displays them. Everything else is just a preference. In fact, I think the next generation news aggregator will allow me to display my scraped date in whatever form I want. Reverse chronological order? No problem. Grouped by source? Sure. Randomly? If I want it to.  6:54:08 PM  permalink   Add a comment

Day 2 of 30 Days to a More Acessable Weblog via Adam Wendt's Agnostic Audiophile Smorgasborg:

Michael sees the world in shades of grey. This is not a business cliche or a philosophical statement; he really sees the world in shades of grey. He has Achromatopsia, or complete color-blindness. All of his clothes are discretely labeled with letters, R for red, B for blue, DG for dark green, and so forth. His girlfriend has compiled a compatibility matrix that specifies which clothes he is allowed to wear together. He follows these instructions to the letter, so to speak, although he does not understand why they matter.

I was going to make a post yesterday on web design and colorblindness, but I figured, what the heck, its a red and green world, and I've got to do my best to live in it. Still, Mark makes some valid point. A lot of the web is hard to navigate for the colorblind, and more importantly, it really is a pain in the butt to buy and wear new clothes without looking like a clown.  6:49:53 PM  permalink   Add a comment

Cows Cause Downtown Traffic Trouble: "It was an unusual scene in downtown Oklahoma City Monday after a group of cows broke loose from their confines and ran through the streets near 7th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue."

Sounds like a job for the California Highway patrol!  6:26:39 PM  permalink   Add a comment

FOXNews.com: Police Dog Accused of Racial Profiling: "A Pennsylvania councilwoman has accused her borough's lone police dog of racial profiling, leading to calls that the canine be killed." [via FARK]

That's it. I'm moving to Iceland. Or Australia. Or Mars.  6:21:42 PM  permalink   Add a comment
