I'm big enough to admit that some people have much cooler homes than me.  11:03:39 PM  permalink   Add a comment

More Reason to Despise the French: "The French writer Michel Houellebecq is being charged with inciting racial hatred in an action brought by four French Muslim organisations. Houellebecq's crime was to state, in an interview, that Islam was 'the most stupid of all religions' ... In any case, the crime for which Houellebecq is being tried - and in which the French justice system, by allowing it to proceed, is playing the part of supplicant whore - has nothing to do with racism; it is really a case of blasphemy, no matter what it says on the charge sheet. This court case, on September 17, will be an exciting trip back in time, to somewhere round about the 17th century. "

Who cares if you agree or disagree with sentiment. It is incredibly scary that a writer, in a supposedly progressive western democracy, is no longer allowed to express an unpopular opinion, even in the form of a fictional monologue.  10:52:32 PM  permalink   Add a comment

Soccer: It's not just for liberals anymore: "While eschewing anything deemed international or, worse, "European" suits the isolationist streak among certain conservatives, it seems to me that a much more proper Ameri-centric response would be to embrace the game for the purpose of demonstrating American superiority through it. For instance, doesn't saying "We play the best football in the world" kind of have a hollow ring to it? I mean, who else is there? But if the U.S. were to produce professional soccer leagues that rivaled those in Italy, Spain, England and Germany, and a national team that could defeat the likes of Brazil, Argentina, and France, how much crow would the internationalists have to eat then? From a FARK.com thread about France's astounding loss at the World Cup today:

Fark.com Comments Thingee (195787): "You see, if France had treated Senegal like they did some of their other former colonies, like Vietnam or Algeria, this might've never had happened." and "ill take it that you dont follow soccer (or football to the rest of the world). helicopters fall out of the sky all the time... senegal just does not beat france. its senegal, for christsake! one of their players admitted stealing a necklace in korea!

In other news, France is stuck in the 70's.  5:46:21 PM  permalink   Add a comment
